Unexpected Favorite

Yesterday I was the Main Photographer
(by virtue of taking the most pictures)
at my nephew's wedding.
I took a lot of The Usual Poses,
many of which turned out very nice indeed.
But this one is my unexpected favorite.
I had not thought to take photos in the traditional Bride Spot at all,
since it was late afternoon and the east end of the temple was in shadow, as you see
(the flickering light reflections are from the reflecting pool.)
But we tried it anyway,
and then Shikara, the bride, asked if we could have some pictures with them looking at the temple.
Well, this was her big day, and the photos are digital, so I figured if they were too odd we could just delete them, but this one view actually turned out to be an unexpected favorite.

Fifty Years Later

(Their grandson got married that day.)

Happy Birthday, Sophie

Candles are lit.

Then the candles get blown out.

A job well done.

The cake was the ginormous Costco kind,
and we used it yesterday up the canyon as well
(hence the slice taken out of the side in the third photo).

Late fall color

Mill Creek canyon was almost all green,
but there were just a couple of sprays of red,
one framing this mid-morning crescent moon.
Fall color is late this year--
maybe the cooling weather this week will hasten the change.

Ichneumon fly

Isn't this an odd but rather beautiful insect?
We found it up Mill Creek canyon.
I should have included something for scale,
as it was at least 3 cm long.
Dad said he believed it was an ichneumon fly.
I had never seen one before
It crawled up my shirt,
and tickled me.
